Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon Light Brown Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted Butter
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  • 1 Whole Clove
  • 1 Allspice Berry
  • 1/8 Vanilla Bean (sliced vertically)
  • 1/8 teaspoon Kosher Salt
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 oz Dark Rum
  • Whipping Cream
  • Freshly grated Nutmeg
  • Optional: a few drops of Rum Extract

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients except rum, whipping cream, and nutmeg in a large slow cooker.
  2. Cook on LOW for 5 1/2 hours; keep warm in the slow cooker after cooking.
  3. Strain the mixture through a fine sieve to remove loose spices and butter solids.
  4. Return the liquid to the slow cooker to keep it warm.
  5. When serving, pour rum (or rum extract) into individual mugs.
  6. Top with whipping cream and freshly grated nutmeg.
  7. Note: The sweet spiced mixture from the slow cooker can be enjoyed on its own for a non-alcoholic option.
