Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon Light Brown Sugar
- 1 tablespoon Unsalted Butter
- 1 Cinnamon Stick
- 1 Whole Clove
- 1 Allspice Berry
- 1/8 Vanilla Bean (sliced vertically)
- 1/8 teaspoon Kosher Salt
- 1 cup Water
- 2 oz Dark Rum
- Whipping Cream
- Freshly grated Nutmeg
- Optional: a few drops of Rum Extract
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients except rum, whipping cream, and nutmeg in a large slow cooker.
- Cook on LOW for 5 1/2 hours; keep warm in the slow cooker after cooking.
- Strain the mixture through a fine sieve to remove loose spices and butter solids.
- Return the liquid to the slow cooker to keep it warm.
- When serving, pour rum (or rum extract) into individual mugs.
- Top with whipping cream and freshly grated nutmeg.
- Note: The sweet spiced mixture from the slow cooker can be enjoyed on its own for a non-alcoholic option.
