Ingredients

  • 1.50 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons water
  • 3-4 fresh mint leaves
  • 3 oz Sauvignon Blanc, chilled
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice, chilled
  • 1/2 oz Triple Sec or other orange-flavored liqueur
  • 1/3 cup bite-size wedges of cantaloupe
  • 1/4 cup bite-size wedges of seedless watermelon

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine sugar, water, and torn mint leaves. Heat over low heat until it simmers, then allow to simmer for 1 minute.
  2. Remove from heat and let the syrup cool to room temperature, which should take about 30 minutes.
  3. Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing on the mint to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the mint leaves and chill the syrup until ready to use.
  4. In a pitcher or large bowl, mix together the chilled wine, orange juice, Triple Sec, and the mint simple syrup.
  5. Add the cantaloupe and watermelon to the mixture and chill for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours.
  6. Pour the chilled spritzer over ice into a glass and garnish with a sprig of mint.
