Ingredients
- 3 cups full-fat milk
- 2 large eggs
- 2.50 tablespoons golden caster sugar
- 2 fl oz Bourbon, rum or brandy
- 2 fl oz whipped cream (optional)
- Freshly grated nutmeg, to serve
Instructions
- Heat the milk in a non-stick saucepan until just below boiling point.
- In a large bowl, beat the eggs and sugar together until thoroughly combined.
- Pour half of the warm milk into the egg mixture and stir well, then return all the mixture to the pan with the rest of the warm milk.
- Cook on low heat until the mixture starts to thicken, but do not let it boil.
- Add the Bourbon, rum or brandy and stir well.
- Pour into heat-proof glasses and top with whipped cream if desired.
- Grate plenty of fresh nutmeg over the top and serve immediately.
